Many people spend a lot of time and effort trying to remove a large tree stump from their property, and others end up hiring a professional to grind it out. Those who are creative make use of what nature provides, and they turn a large tree stump on their property into something useful and often beautiful. Instead of worrying about how to get rid of a large tree stump, consider the following creative ways to use it. From a permanent chair to a natural feeding station, a large tree stump can be used in many creative and unique new ways.

Carve it Into a Permanent Chair

Outdoor furniture can blow away, but it would take a lot more than a strong wind to get rid of a large tree stump. Instead of spending a lot of time and money having it removed, use a chainsaw to carve it into a permanent wooden chair complete with a sturdy back and comfortable armrests. Depending upon the location, it can be outfitted with a comfy cushion, additional chairs, and used with an outdoor table to create an area for dining and relaxing. A tree stump chair is sure to be the most unique piece of outdoor furniture on the block.

Make a Table Out of a Large Tree Stump

Just as a large tree stump can be made into a permanent wooden chair, it can also be made into a durable table – if it is the right height. Use a chainsaw to make the top as level as possible and follow up with an electric sander and coarse-grit sandpaper. After sanding it with the coarse-grit sandpaper, use sandpaper with the finer grit to sand it as smooth as possible. Coat it with outdoor polyurethane for a beautiful clear finish according to product label instructions. Use the tree stump table for dining, or to hold potted plants, a large cement statue, or another decorative outdoor arrangement. Unlike plastic and lightweight metal, this outdoor table will not blow away in the wind.

Hollow Out the Tree Stump to Make a Natural Planter

Large sturdy outdoor planters can be quite costly, but those fortunate enough to have a large tree stump on their property can use it for growing and displaying a variety of plants. Use a drill with a large bit to create numerous holes in the tree stump. Next, use a chisel and mallet to carve away the wood while avoiding the sides. This is a time-consuming task, but when complete what was once a solid tree stump can be filled will soil, flowers, trailing vines, and beautiful foliage.

Make a Unique Giant Flower Tree

If a tree stump has been cut off at a higher level, it can be used to make a unique flower tree. Trim the top with a chainsaw to make it as level as possible and paint the stump with foliage-green outdoor paint to create an oversized wooden stem. Top the tree stump stem with flowers in multiple green planters or a single green planter of the appropriate size. Plant variegated ivy around the edges and fill the center with taller flowers such as geraniums or daisies. Place the lower-growing flowers along the outer areas. Petunias, impatiens, and marigolds are all excellent choices. Select flowers according to sunshine requirements, and have fun creating a beautiful flower tree using one or more varieties. It will look amazing.

Create a Bird or Squirrel Feeding Station

If you enjoy feeding and caring for outdoor birds and squirrels, keep the large tree they once used for safety and shelter. Use the stump for a feeding station. If the tree stump is tall enough, attach wrought-iron hooks and holders around the outer top edge. Hang feeders of various types to accommodate many varieties of wild birds. If the stump is low, create a squirrel feeding station that includes the top of a clay or stone birdbath for water and holders for ears of dried corn. You will be amazed by the numbers and types of birds and animals that stop by for meals.

In any case, do not consider a large tree stump an eyesore or something undesirable. Paint it or decorate it in fun and unique ways or try one of the aforementioned ideas. Many people would love to have a large tree stump on their property.

OR, If your one of the people who think “you cant put lipstick on a stump”, you may want to consider stump grinding.😁😉
