STUMP GRINDING COST: SIZE
Well, the most obvious point is first. SIZE. How big is your stump? Not just the size of the visible stump some customers overlook the root structure. The size of the rootball can easily be 20x the size of the visible stump.
Next, the shape of your stump. Do you have a stump that is mostly flush-cut? Or are there 3 feet protruding? Some contractors prefer not to rest their $3000 saws on the ground. (That was a joke BTW😁)
LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION
Location is everything. Is your stump right next to a structure? Stumps right against buildings and objects sometimes pose an extra challenge. It’s important to not only understand the terrain around your stump, but also the stump itself. Will loose debris make it difficult to complete the job?
Is your stump behind a gated fence? That’s a huge factor. If so, how wide is your gate opening? Any stump anywhere can be ground. However, getting a crane involved to lift equipment into a totally sealed area is VERY costly. A lot of times ramps and large debris shields must be used which further adds to the cost.
TYPE OF TREE
The stump is the most important part of your stump removal project. What type of tree was it? Hardwoods will add to the cost. Oak, Maple, Cherry, and Sycamore are a few common types in the area. Let’s not forget about Hickory perhaps one of the hardest.
How much does stump grinding cost?
In conclusion, stump grinding costs can be determined by how much work you want the stump grinder to do. If you need the stump grinding service to grind the stump down to a certain depth, you will have higher costs than if you wanted it ground away with minimal depth.
Although it’s usually never a good idea to plant a new tree in the exact same spot, grinding to a depth to allow this will be more expensive for sure.
